Workshops
Balboa Park – “City within a City”

A photographic tour of San Diego’s Spanish-Colonial fantasy city. Get treated to great views of the fabulous architecture, the Botanical Gardens, Spreckels Organ Pavillion, Cabrillo bridge, the Lily Pond, Palm Canyon, and much more.

This workshop will allow you to shoot in your own style while offering the opportunity to capture some of San Diego’s most famous and most beautiful imagery. You will be guided through the park, taking time to photograph its major attractions as well as many of its lesser known, but equally impressive minor attractions.

Beginning with the beautiful morning sunlight, we will tour the park, stopping at the many sites to create images worthy of being on a postcard. When the sun gets high (and hot) we will take a break to “critique” our images and answer any questions, then you will be given an hour and a half for lunch and relaxation (lunch is not included.) After lunch, we will regroup to continue the tour until sunset, after which you will have the option to join us for a follow up critique and dinner.

Throughout the workshop, your instructor will answer questions and help you choose the best compositions, exposures, and lenses for the situation. We will also have on hand certain loaner lenses so you can experiment with different views and effects.

This is a one-day workshop.

Classes
Introduction to Photography

In this class, you will learn the following:

  1. What is a camera? (Types of cameras, parts of the camera.)
  2. How does it take pictures and how do I take pictures with it? (Camera functions and photographic technique)
  3. How can I control the camera to get what I want? (Camera controls, metering, lighting)
  4. Special bonus: Simple portrait lighting setup.

• You will learn the basic functions of cameras, how they “see” and how to change the way they see.

• You’ll become familiar with those strange-sounding photography terms: “aperture”, “f-stop”, “depth-of-field”, and “shutter”, and others, and you’ll learn how to use them.

• You’ll learn how to see light as it falls on your subject, and how to record it.

When you complete this class, you will feel more comfortable with your camera and with your ability to take photos – and it will show in the pictures you take.

This will be a two-evening class with time spent in the classroom and in the field
