About the Artist

Holt Webb was born in Atlanta, Georgia and currently lives in San Diego, California. In addition to creating Fine Art Photographs, Holt also teaches photography to tour groups around the country and abroad.

Even as a kid, Holt had artistic inclinations. He drew his first sketch in the second grade, and from that point on, he drew for himself and for his classmates – even getting paid as much as a quarter to design their art projects for them.

“As early as I can remember, I've been fascinated by art. I loved to look at paintings and sculptures. And I loved to draw.

I got my first camera at the age of 10. It was a Kodak Stylelite 110 that I won as a prize for selling Christmas cards door-to-door. With that camera I took pictures of everything. I loved it. (And, I still have it.)”

That love of taking pictures grew through high school and took on a life of its own in college where he discovered that he could use light and shadow to "sculpt" images with his camera. When his photograph Dunes won Best of Show in 1992 at the University of Georgia Student Photography Contest, he knew he had found his niche. He graduated that year from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art Photography.

Since then he has worked as a graphic designer, freelance artist, and commercial/wedding photographer, working in both film and digital, 35mm and Medium Format. But it’s only recently that he gave up shooting for others and focused on shooting for himself. Since that change, he’s found that he’s more relaxed, happier, and enjoying his work again.

“Taking pictures that I want to take has helped me rediscover those old feelings I felt when I was a kid shooting with my Kodak 110 – those feelings of excitement and discovery, and the exhilaration you get when you’ve created something amazing. It’s a passionate endeavor, and photography is my passion.”
